WrestleRock Podcast has learned some sad news today. Lanny Poffo, who was the younger brother of the late Macho Man Randy Savage and known as « Leaping Lanny Poffo » and « The Genius » in the 80’s and 90’s in the World Wrestling Federation, has died at the age of 68. However, the cause of his death is not known at this time.
Poffo made his professional wrestling debut with the All-South Wrestling Alliance in 1974 and wrestled in several National Wrestling Alliance territories, where he won a Tag-Team Championship alongside his father, wrestling legend Angelo Poffo.
Poffo joined his brother Randy in the WWF in 1985. Although he never really got to step out of his older brother’s shadow, Lanny Poffo has faced many big names, including Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant and The Ultimate Warrior.
His Genius gimmick remained popular for a time in the late 1980s and early 1990s where he was notably the manager of Mr Perfect (the late Curt Hennig) and the Beverly Brothers.
