Il y a 35 ans aujourd’hui, une journée tragique s’est déroulée dans l’histoire du catch professionnel lorsque Bruiser Brody a été attaqué mortellement dans un vestiaire à Porto Rico.
Brody a été poignardé deux fois à l’estomac par Jose Huertes Gonzalez, connu dans le monde du catch sous le nom d’Invader I. Tony Atlas et Dutch Mantel étaient présents, mais selon Atlas, il était difficile de communiquer avec la police sur les lieux car ils ne parlaient pas anglais et les autres catcheurs refusaient d’agir comme interprètes.
Il a fallu presque une heure aux ambulances pour arriver à l’arène en raison du trafic. Bien que Brody ait été emmené à l’hôpital, il y est décédé en raison d’une perte de sang excessive. Gonzalez a été jugé mais acquitté après avoir plaidé la légitime défense.
De nombreux catcheurs ont considéré cela comme une injustice flagrante et ont cessé de se rendre à Porto Rico en conséquence.
C’était une tragédie que les fans regrettent encore aujourd’hui. Brody, même à l’âge de 42 ans, avait un avenir prometteur devant lui.
On this day 35 years ago, a tragic event unfolded in the history of professional wrestling when Bruiser Brody was fatally assaulted in a locker room in Puerto Rico.
Brody, a renowned wrestler, was viciously stabbed twice in the stomach by Jose Huertes Gonzalez, known as Invader I in the wrestling world. Although Tony Atlas and Dutch Mantel were present during the incident, communicating with the local police proved challenging as they didn’t speak English, and other wrestlers refused to act as interpreters.
Due to heavy traffic, it took nearly an hour for ambulances to reach the arena. Brody was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to excessive blood loss and passed away there. Gonzalez faced trial but was acquitted after claiming self-defense.
This incident deeply affected many wrestlers, who considered it a grave miscarriage of justice. Consequently, numerous wrestlers ceased traveling to Puerto Rico as a direct result of this tragedy.
Even at the age of 42, Brody had a promising future ahead of him, and his untimely demise remains a source of sorrow for fans to this day.
